CompactCMS - Just right for some, not enough for others

Written by webchicklet on July 9, 2008 – 11:57 am -

I’ve been playing around with CompactCMS lately. Personally, I like it…mostly. Most geeks would probably like it as well, but it’s lacking a few features that would make it perfect for geeks and non-geeks alike. However, if you are the developer type, and you often design sites for your friends and family, this could make your life easier … by making their lives easier.

The negatives: you have to code menus and ftp images, because neither an image manager nor a menu manager is included.

The positives: Your friends and family can use a very simple editor to manage content, and the URLs are search engine friendly.

Play with the demo a bit if you’re interested and you’ll be able to tell right away if CompactCMS will be right for you.

And then when checking out links to my newly started project I ran into this post.

The objective judgment is much appreciated :). And in all fairness: the image manager is something I’m actually missing myself as well. So it’s something I’m planning to work on. End-users should really be able to upload images themselves.

The menu manager will have to wait. I don’t see an easy way for sub levels, but the idea of getting rid of those two negatives is a good motivation ;).

    Thanks & keep it up!
