Majestic Becomes Injader CMS and Goes Open Source

Written by webchicklet on May 30, 2008 – 7:49 am -

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Majestic CMS for a while, and now that it has moved to a free, open source model, and changed its name, it seems like a great time to blog about it.

Injader seems to be a nice cross between simple and feature-rich. Its goal is to be powerful, flexible, and easy to use. While there are certainly more powerful systems, they usually come with a bit more of a learning curve. Injader seems to do a good job of keeping that learning curve to a minimum, while still offering “enough” features to keep most normal users happy.

Although plugins can be added to extend the functionality of the system, the following features are built right in, with no need for plugins to get them working right off the bat.

  • WYSIWYG editor for posting content
  • Online template editing
  • Unlimited depth in your site hierarchy
  • Highly customisable permission profiles
  • Search-engine optimised URLs - no configuration required
  • Tags (keywords to aid searching)
  • Related content list based on tags
  • Smart Areas - automatically show content with certain tags
  • Import/export templates
  • Access log - see what people are doing on your site
  • File uploads
  • Linked Areas
  • Automatic thumbnails for JPG and PNG images
  • Search engine
  • Comments
  • Avatars
  • RSS feeds

You can see a full list of features here (scroll down).

The quick way to check this CMS out is to take the feature tour. You’ll get to see screenshots and explanations of the admin area, which should give you most of the info you need to evaluate the product.

Oh, and one other thing worth mentioning. It can import a WordPress blog, which might be useful to some of you.
