SnippetMaster - Quite Nice Ultra-Light Static Site CMS

A few days ago, I mentioned two “ultra-light” CMS editors that allow you to edit pre-defined portions of your existing web pages. Since then, I’ve been told about another one that has been around for a while, but is pretty sweet.

SnippetMaster is described as “a free content editing tool for website owners or designers who want a very easy, quick, and visual way to edit pre-defined areas on any web page, through any browser, without messing up the rest of the web page.” Like the other two, you essentially define portions of a web page, using special tags, that can be edited via the CMS admin area. Like the other two, it’s super simple to do. Just do this to a page…

Page content goes here…

<!– #BeginSnippet name=”My editable area” –>

Place any web page content you wish to make editable here…

<!– #EndSnippet –>

Page content goes here…

…and that portion of text will be editable via a WYSIWYG editor. You can assign different privileges to different users (admin, superuser, power user, and regular user) and each has different abilities in what they can edit.

There are two versions of SnippetMaster - Lite and Pro. The Pro version only costs $24.95 for one domain or $79.95 for a rebrandable license, and it includes enough extra features to justify the expenditure, in my opinion. Note that those prices are only suggested prices, and if you honestly can’t afford them, you can arrange for lower pricing with the developer. (That in itself is totally cool). Also, the Pro version is free for non-profits.

This is a program I may utilize for a few of my sites that don’t change very often, and don’t need lots of bells and whistles. In other words, this one I like…a lot.
